The House of Yes

How does a family communicate when they have never been told "No?" Absurd Reality Theatre (ART) answers this question at a new theatre in their 2006-2007 season debut, Wendy Macleod's play The House of Yes.

Written by Wendy MacLeod

After spending an entire season at the Northwest Actor's Studio, Absurd Reality Theatre begins their 2006-2007 at a new venue: Odd Duck Theatre. Recently acquired by Eclectic Theatre, Odd Duck presented the intimate and eerie atmosphere needed for the Pascal household, the only location in the play.

"We truly enjoyed working with the Studio," Brandon Ryan, artistic director of ART said, "but we felt Odd Duck worked perfectly for our design and ideas for The House of Yes."

In Wendy Macleod's black comedy, the actors of ART take on the Pascal family for whom time has stopped with Kennedy's assassination, even twenty years past the infamous shooting. The obsessive Jackie-O is home from a mental health facility and keen to renew her incestuous relationship with her brother Marty. However, shut in during a thanksgiving hurricane, the family must deal with Marty's unannounced bride-to-be, Lesly. While the mother wants nothing to come between her family, younger brother Anthony immediately desires Lesly, and can't resist one-upping his older brother. The family struggle means a choice must be made by Marty; his family or his sanity.

"The House of Yes brings five very distinct people to life," Tellier Killaby (director) said, "The actors have worked hard to bring a realistic humanity to their character, despite the seemingly absurd nature of their outlook on life."

The play will run November 3rd through November 18th and again on December 1st and 2 nd. Tickets are available through www.brownpapertickets.com for $12 or by calling 1-800-838-3006. Tickets are $15 dollars at the door, and Monday, November 13 th is "pay what you can" night. The Odd Duck Studio is located at 1214 10th Ave, Seattle WA 98122.
