Longenpalooza

For Live Theatre Week 2006 and 2007, ART presented staged readings of various plays written by local playwright John Longenbaugh.

Apples, Accidents and Affairs: A John Longenbaugh Sampler

In celebration of Live Theatre Week, Absurd Reality Theatre is presenting an evening of FREE theatre featuring staged readings of short comedies by local playwright John Longenbaugh. The pieces feature A.R.T. members Heather Louden, Glynis Mitchell, Brandon Ryan, Maridee Slater Amanda Stoddard, and David Turnipseed.

A.R.T., founded in 2003, received the 2006 People’s Choice Award for best local theatre from the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

The show also features the amazing musical accompaniment of two Seattle musical giants: Spanish guitar master Andre Feriante and jazz saxophone legend Ronnie Pierce!

These six short pieces range from the twisted to the lyrical, from the sweet to the sinister, traveling from the Garden of Eden to modern-day apartment dwellers, all trying to square the best of motives with what often seems to be the worst of worlds.

The pieces, which have been read or produced in the past at such venues as 14/48, Theater Schmeater, Tacoma Actors Guild, 24 Hour Theatre, and Carlotta’s Late Night Wing-Ding, include: “A is for Apple” and “B is for Bear” (two excerpts from the longer work “Bible Stories for Agnostics,”); “Accidental Meeting,” “Petting Sounds,” “Perspectives” and “Affairs with the Moon.”

Both Feriante and Pierce will provide live musical accompaniment. Guitarist/composer Feriante is probably best known in Seattle for his annual Valentine’s Day concerts at Benaroya Hall. His most recent album, Bohemian Boulevard, won the award of Best World Album at the NAR Lifestyle Music Awards. Ronnie Pierce is Seattle jazz legend who’s performed with Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Billy Eckstein, Mills Brothers, Hank Williams, Quincy Jones, Ernestine Anderson, Bumps Blackwell, and Ray Charles and he was inducted into the Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame in 2003.

Longenbaugh’s full-length plays include “Scotch and Donuts,” “The Man Who Was Thursday,” “How to be Cool,” and “The Eternal Vaudeville.” He is an Active Member in the Dramatists Guild.
